Huma ORIGIN OF ENGLISH   The history of English is conventionally, if perhaps too neatly, divided into three periods usually called  Old English (or Anglo-Saxon), Middle English, and Modern English .  According to a 2009 study by researchers at Reading University, the oldest words in the English language include  “I“, “we“, “who“, “two” and “three“ , all of which date back tens of thousands of years. A majority of the words used in English today are of foreign origin. English still derives much of its vocabulary from Latin and Greek, but we have also borrowed words from nearly all of the languages in Europe.
